Smirnov Alexey Nikolaevich
Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine, Leading Researcher, Department of Magnetic Hydrodynamics, FTIMS NAS of Ukraine
Born in 1955 in Donetsk. In 1977, he graduated from the Physics and Metallurgy Department of Donetsk National Institute, and then went from engineer to head of the Department of Steel Metallurgy DonNTU.
He is a well-known and respected scientist in the field of production, after-furnace treatment, casting and hardening. cast iron and steel. The set of research projects carried out under his leadership represents a new scientific direction - the creation of theoretical foundations and new highly effective methods of process control solidification under conditions of local non-stationary crystallization and the application of low-vibration vibrations frequency upon receipt of high-quality continuously cast billets, ingots and castings. Prof. Smirnov A.N. defended Candidate dissertation in 1984, doctoral in 1997, received the title of Associate Professor in 1991, and professors in 2001. In 2002, he was awarded the title of Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology for his work. “Development and implementation of energy and resource-saving technological production cycles of competitive metal products based on a complex of ladle furnaces and continuous steel casting machines. ” In 2008, by Presidential Decree In Ukraine he was awarded the honorary title “Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine”. In 1988-1989 he passed 10-month scientific internship at the Technological and Metallurgical Faculty of the University of Belgrade (Yugoslavia) under the leadership of a famous theoretical scientist prof. L. Nedelkovich. The scientific purpose of the internship is to develop and deepen ideas about the processes of solidification of metals and alloys under the conditions of superimposed vibrational effects. A.N.Smirnov is the deputy. Chairman of the Interagency Scientific and Technical Council on Extra-furnace Processing and continuous casting of steel of NAS of Ukraine, member of the specialized doctoral council D 11.052.01, member of the section Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine, a member of the Metallurgy section of the Committee on State Prizes of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, a member of the methodological commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in the field of "Metallurgy", as well as Vice President of the Ukrainian Steelmakers Association. He is also a member of the authoritative editorial boards. scientific and technical magazines "Steel" (Russia), "Electrometallurgy" (Russia), "Metallurgical and mining industry ”,“ Casting processes ”and deputy. Chairman of the Editorial Board of the collection of scientific works of DonNTU. He is one from the leaders of the scientific committee for the international scientific and technical conference "Progressive Technologies in Steel Metallurgy: XXI Century ”, which is held in Donetsk every two years.
Based on the results obtained during the research, prof. Smirnov A.N. published over 500 scientific papers, including 12 monographs and study guides, 65 copyright certificates and patents, 2 scientific discoveries, and Dozens of reports at prestigious international symposia and conferences. Under his leadership, 5 PhD theses and 1 doctoral. Understanding the crucial role of the modern higher education system in the formation of a new generation of Ukrainian intelligentsia, prof. Smirnov A.N. pays great attention improving the system of training specialists and masters for the steel industry of Ukraine. In particular he developed and introduced new lecture courses into the educational process: “Continuous steel casting”, “New materials in metallurgy ”,“ Standardization and certification of products ”. With the direct supervision and participation of prof. Smirnova A.N. In recent years, a number of major investment projects for reconstruction and technological modernization of steel plants in Ukraine and Russia. Among such innovative projects, modernization the electric furnace shop of CJSC MMZ ISTIL Ukraine, the converter shop of OJSC Enakievsky Metallurgical Plant, open-hearth shop of OJSC Vyksa Metallurgical Plant, restructuring of the electric furnace shop of OJSC “Kramatorsky plant“ Energomash-special steel ”and others. Also, together with OJSC“ NKMZ ”a basic project and technological accompaniment for high-performance slab caster, which is competitive with the best European models. The project has already been implemented for the converter shop of OJSC Azovstal Metallurgical Plant and OJSC Novolipetsk Iron and Steel Works".
