Summary:

The results of comparative studies on the formation of mechanical properties and the microstructure of a rod with the diameter of 5,5 mm made of steel SAE 1006 produced from continuously cast billets with a cross section of 150×150 mm and 335×400 mm with their rolling on the blank mill up to the cross section of 150×150 mm are presented. It is shown that temporary tensile strength and relative narrowing of the rod are practically independent of the dimensions of continuously cast billets, and the elongation is higher for the wire rod produced from the continuously cast billet of a larger cross section.
